Aloe vera is a succulent plant originating in the Middle East. Its fleshy leaves retain water and are resistant to drought. Traditional healers use the jelly-like interior of the leaves in both topical and oral applications.
The beneficial properties of aloe vera are due to polysaccharides such as acemannan. Polysaccharides are carbohydrates consisting of ten or more simple sugars.
Which is better, juice or gel?
During the processing, the aloe vera leaves are peeled off and mechanically cut into pieces. This produces the well-known liquid with pieces of pulp. Aloe vera juice is filtered and does not contain any lumps of pulp. Besides the pulp, the gel also contains xanthan gum that keeps the aloe vera in the gastrointestinal tract longer.
