General Cleaning
For general cleaning, dissolve 1 part soap paste in 2 parts warm water to make a bucket of cleaning solution. For surfaces that are not heavily soiled or greasy, dissolve 1 tablespoon of black soap in 2 liters of lukewarm water.
Floors and Tiled Surfaces
For floors and tiled surfaces, dissolve 2 to 3 tablespoons of soap in 5 liters of lukewarm to warm water. Wash and scrub with a sponge. For parquet floors and small tiles, use lukewarm water to avoid damaging the hardened oil layer and to protect it. Black soap is slightly greasy and contains a portion of unsaponifiable linseed oil, which leaves a protective, nourishing and lightly shiny layer on the cleaned surface.
Stove, Deep Fryer and Cooktop
For stoves, deep fryers and cooktops, apply a few drops of black soap directly onto a sponge. For stubborn dirt, prepare a mixture of 1 part black soap and 1 part Blanc de Meudon, apply directly and rinse.
Cutlery Made of Copper, Brass, Silver, etc.
For cutlery made of copper, brass or silver, soak the items in a bath of lukewarm water with 4 to 5 tablespoons of black soap for 10 minutes. Remove and dry afterwards without rinsing.
Cleaning Brushes
When cleaning brushes, avoid solvents of any kind, even plant-based ones, as they are expensive, polluting and mildly aggressive to the skin. With black soap and lukewarm or warm water, most paints, including oil paint, can be removed and the bristles are lightly nourished to ensure a longer lifespan.
Garden
In the garden, black soap is well known among organic gardeners for controlling aphids and other small unwanted insects and for protecting rose bushes, flowers and houseplants.
Animals
For animals, black soap is well known among organic breeders for cleaning animal udders. It is also used as a shampoo for dogs and horses and for the care of nails and hooves.
