La Droguerie Ecologique – Baking Soda – Sodium Bicarbonate – 1kg

Sodium bicarbonate is the scientific name for baking soda. It is also known as bicarbonate, baking soda, E500, or soda powder. It has numerous ecological properties and is inexpensive. Its variety and wealth of applications are astonishing. Sodium bicarbonate can replace many products.

Consider using sodium bicarbonate instead of water softeners, chemical cleaners, air fresheners, and maintenance products! It can be used as a cleaning agent, water softener, abrasive, pH regulator, deodorizer, and descaler… the applications are endless.

Sodium Bicarbonate – A Bit of History
The ancient Egyptians already used the properties of natron, a mineral made of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate. They obtained this substance by evaporating salt lakes and used it as soap to wash their bodies. This substance was also used to mummify bodies, as bicarbonate has excellent dehydrating properties.

In 1791, a French chemist developed sodium bicarbonate as we know it today. Over time, various improvements were made in its production and refining. Modern bicarbonate is mainly obtained from the chemical reaction between chalk and salt, two almost inexhaustible sources. Some dried lakes (e.g., in Canada and the USA) still extract natron today, which, when refined, produces bicarbonate.

Country of Origin: France

In the Bathroom
Cleaning your beauty accessories: place items such as hairbrushes, nail brushes, curlers, etc., in a bath with the prepared solution overnight. Rinse thoroughly with clean water the next day.

Dishwasher
Before starting the pre-wash program, sprinkle a generous amount of sodium bicarbonate directly on the dirty dishes: it prevents unpleasant odors and reduces the amount of detergent needed. To boost the performance of your regular detergent, add 2 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate during the wash cycle.

Hand Washing
Mix vinegar, sodium bicarbonate, and water.

Stains on porcelain from tea, coffee, etc.: rub with a sponge soaked in sodium bicarbonate over the surface; the stains disappear quickly.

Fabrics and Linen
To soften laundry: put 1/4 cup of bicarbonate and 3/4 cup of water in the washing machine’s rinse compartment.

To remove stains from linen: let it soak for a few hours in a tub of warm water with one cup of bicarbonate added. Then rinse briefly and place it in the washing machine.

For cleaning upholstery, such as carpets: mix 4 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate in 1 liter of water.

Sofas
Sprinkle sodium bicarbonate on the fabric, rub it in well, leave it for 1 hour, and then vacuum. The fabric will be clean and odor-free.

Cut Flowers
Add a teaspoon of bicarbonate to the water of your cut flowers. You will notice they stay beautiful longer.

Odor Removal
Spoon some baking soda into shoes to remove odors. Leave it overnight and shake out well the next morning before wearing your shoes.

Polishing Jewelry
To restore the shine of silver jewelry, line the bottom of a bowl with aluminum foil. Add hot water and a generous spoon of baking soda. Let the jewelry soak briefly, then wipe dry with a clean cloth.

Drain Cleaner
Bicarbonate also works perfectly as a drain cleaner. Pour one cup of baking soda into the sink and add vinegar. Let this mixture sit for about 15 minutes. Finally, pour hot water over it. Repeat if necessary.
